Job Summary

City of Mississauga Aquatics provides many opportunities for part time employment, both year round and seasonally.

Please note: Due to the uncertainty we are facing regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and the City's programming restrictions, the recruitment of these positions is dependent on available vacancies and business needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for the delivery of Aquatics training and certification courses. Must plan, coach and evaluate candidates while prioritizing safety and upholding established standards.

  • A Trainer that teaches Instructor Courses and Safety Management:
    • Lifesaving Society: Lifesaving Instructors, First Aid Instructors, Examiners, Coach or Officials, Aquatic Supervisor Training Instructors, Aquatic Safety Inspectors
  • Maintain qualifications and current teaching practices by teaching and/or examining courses
  • Attending necessary trainings in order to ensure City of Mississauga and Lifesaving Society standards are met
  • Ensure all City of Mississauga and Lifesaving Society standards are maintained and accurate information is being delivered.
  • Delivers courses prioritizing safety.
  • Evaluates unbiasedly based on the standards and level taught
  • Provide evaluations and accommodations following guidance of certifying body.
  • Records prerequisites, progress and development of candidates
  • Gives written feedback and end of session report cards
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner. Includes course planning, test sheets and roasters.
  • Maintains communication with the Aquatics Supervisor/Recreation Programmer, Aquatics
  • Provides mentorship for participants within the class through various modes - in person, emailing, consulting and meetings.
  • Demonstrates leadership in all interactions. Models professionalism and acts as a resource for aquatic team.
  • Takes on apprentices and mentors them for success.

 

Please note: Full time hours of work are not guaranteed. Hours may be affected due to mechanical shut downs, inclement weather or COVID-19 restrictions.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must hold one of more of the following;
    • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Trainer
    • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Trainer
    • Lifesaving Society First Aid Trainer
    • Lifesaving Society Coach Trainer
    • Lifesaving Society Officials Trainer
    • Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Training Instructor Trainer
    • Lifesaving Society Aquatic Safety Inspector Instructor Trainer
    • Lifesaving Society National Trainer
  • Holds current 565 approved Standard First Aid
  • Holds current 565 approved Lifeguard certification as required
  • Light lifting
  • Primarily indoor/outdoor pool environment

Hourly Rate/Salary: $30.46 - $40.61 ($30.99 -$41.32 as of April 1, 2022)   
Hours of Work: up to 24 hours per week

COVID-19 Update: 

This position has been deemed to require full vaccination as per the Peel Medical Officer of Health who has required this pursuant to a regulation under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020. This is to mitigate the elevated risk of COVID-19 transmission in organized sports/recreation. Proof of Fully Vaccinated Confirmation or a City approved medical exemption will be required your before first day.  Employees and volunteers will still be subject to the City’s Employee and Volunteer COVID-19 Vaccination Policy and all health and safety requirements related to COVID-19 remain in place for all employees and volunteers, regardless of their vaccination status. 

 

A Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) will be required of the successful candidate, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
