PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of the Analyst or Specialist Revenue Accounting role is to account for CP’s revenue to ensure complete and accurate financial results for stakeholders and the investor community.  The Analyst or Specialist Revenue Accounting is responsible for the evaluation and completion of accounting processes to reflect revenue generating activities and expenses as they relate to revenue, including the preparation of external and internal reporting.  The Analyst or Specialist Revenue Accounting will partner with Marketing and Sales and other business stakeholders to consider accounting implications and provide guidance regarding complex revenue contracts and transactions.    

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
•    Perform journal entries and accounting processes to ensure the complete and accurate recognition of freight and non-freight revenues; 
•    Engage and support various business stakeholders in providing guidance and completing the accounting for revenues and related activities; 
•    Reconcile receivable and payable accounts pertaining to other freight and non-freight revenues and identify, analyze, and reconcile inconsistent information and recommend adjustments where necessary;
•    Assist with the assessment, accounting, and forecasting of revenue contracts; 
•    Perform analysis of various accounting issues, resolve, and implement new procedures;
•    Develop and execute daily, monthly, quarterly, yearly reports that illustrate how CP is performing to plan against key metrics;
•    Assist in the validation and publication of internal reporting as it relates to revenues, demand and key metrics;
•    Complete relevant sections of the quarterly Management Discussion and Analysis, and Annual Report;
•    Monitor data integrity to ensure consistent reporting;
•    Assist in the consolidation of revenue and key metric data for reporting purposes;
•    Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements and data maintenance to achieve business objectives that could be business and/or technical in nature;
•    Significant interaction with the business units to understand and articulate key drivers of change.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 
•    Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Economics or Business Administration is preferred;
•    1 to 2 years post-graduation experience an asset;
•    Designated CPA or training towards a CPA designation;
•    Demonstrated capability to interpret a wide array of information and determine key messages;
•    Preference given to candidates with reporting experience;
•    ERP/SAP, BPC, BI, and Blackline experience an asset;
•    Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; 
•    Financial acumen;
•    Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment;
•    Ability to clearly communicate both written and oral;
•    Strong organizational, time management and relationship management skills;
•    Able to work independently, and dig into technical anomalies to drive clarity and resolve problems;
•    Ability to bridge the gap between analytics and business understanding.

MANAGEMENT CONDUCTOR PROGRAM:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
