The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking to hire bilingual technical experts in Funeral Service Certification on a contractual basis.


Technical Experts play a key role in the assessment of certification bodies. They apply their extensive technical expertise to evaluate the competence of personnel and the conformity of processes.


Key Activities

• Work closely with SCC staff to determine the scope and criteria to be assessed
• Conduct interviews, as part of a team or independently, to assess the competence of personnel
• Review certification records to assess evidence of conformity with relevant criteria
• Observe the work of certification body personnel to assess their conformity to procedures and application of relevant criteria
• Report findings to the Lead Assessor and provide recommendations based on evidence
• Draft the Technical Report at the end of the assessment activities

Essential Qualifications

• Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident/Work VISA for the duration of the contract

Language Requirements

• Various: bilingual imperative, French imperative, English imperative

Essential Technical Knowledge

• Advanced understanding of:
◦ BNQ 9700-699/2009 Prestation de services professionnels à la clientèle - Entreprises de services funéraires (or similar)
◦ ICS Code: 03.080.30 SERVICES FOR CONSUMERS INCLUDING FUNERALS
• Strong grasp of the laws and regulations governing funeral service providers
• At least 5 years of experience or deep knowledge in the field of Funeral Service Providers
• Understanding of ISO/IEC 17065 and service certification is an asset

• Strong technical, analytical and review skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Sound judgement and evaluation abilities
• Ability to read, interpret and reference relevant criteria from standards
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in both Official Languages
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, both within an assessment team, and with customers
• Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications; familiar with information and communication technology (e.g. web-based communications software); comfortable conducting remote assessments
• Understanding or experience in the certification body field is considered a strong asset

Abilities

• Work independently or with limited supervision
• Effectively represent SCC and follow SCC’s policies and procedures
• Meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
• Willingness to travel within Canada and the United States, occasionally on short notice
• Work in a variety of industrial, commercial and manufacturing environments
