Job Description:

Role Summary

You are on the elite Investor Relations team that delivers our core messaging to Senior Management, the Board of Directors, and ultimately to investors.  Keys to success include effective collaboration with leaders at all levels in the organization, excellent communication skills, being highly motivated with a keen interest in continual learning and career development, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to challenge the status quo.

Reporting to the AVP, External Reporting, this role is accountable for leading the development and production of our external Management Discussion & Analysis.  This role will work closely with various business partners to understand key analytical insights, allowing them to dive into complex issues in order to develop key messaging for external consumption and our leadership team. Responsibilities also include working with our IFRS 17 Project team to help develop new external narrative. 

This role will also support the continued digitization of financial information and the transformation of our reporting process through effective deployment of technology and will be responsible to deliver new insights on value creation from this investment.

Position Purpose

  • Coordinate the input to and draft our external management’s discussion and analysis (quarterly and annual) for SLF, including our communications relating to IFRS 17/9 disclosures

  • Connects the big picture, understands the business and manages complexity across deliverables;

  • Analyze complex technical issues and its impact to financial results and key messaging

  • Collaborates with various key stakeholders and business partners to resolve issues as they arise

  • Support leadership team and other stakeholders to proactively identify, understand, and explain key messages, trends and variances

  • Partner with the various suppliers to understand complex transactions and its overall financial impact

  • Coordinate and participate in meetings with key stakeholders and business partners, including senior executives

  • Monitor and benchmark key trends, issues, and best practices for public disclosure across our peers in the Financial Services and Insurance industry Institution peers to continually enhance our communication

  • Monitor to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements are being met (including those from IFRS, OSC and SEC)

  • Ensure strong, internal controls and processes are in place

  • Leverage tools and technology to improve processes and lead process improvement projects

What you will need to be successful

  • Professional designation (CPA, CA, Actuarial, CFA) with 5-7+ years of Insurance or Financial Services industry experience

  • Effectively provide clear and concise messaging to internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to work across multiple functions and business groups;

  • Experience and strong knowledge of SEC, OSC, OSFI and IFRS requirements for external disclosures;

  • Operates well in ambiguity and is resilient in changing situations;

  • Adapts leadership style to be effective in different situations and challenges;

  • Works effectively together through engagement and influencing others, collaborates effectively and optimizes talent;

  • Collaborative working style with strong interpersonal, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills to partner with employees/leaders at all levels in the organization

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to influence without authority

  • Creative and innovative with the ability to recommend and implement improved processes and to effectively lead change, including digital enhancements

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
