Job Summary

Responsible for the supervision and coordination of a drop in program for youth. Instructor is responsible to meet the needs of the participants and ensure course outline and expectations are followed.

Please note: This posting will be used to fill various vacancies over the coming months and therefore interviews will be offered when required. Due to the uncertainty we are facing regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and the City's programming restrictions, the recruitment of these positions is dependent on available vacancies and business needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Community Programs, the successful candidate will assist in the operation of drop-in sport programs to meet the needs of all participants and to ensure adequate safety while facilitating leisure activities.
 

  • Supervise participants and planned activities in designated facility areas, manage behaviour and report any relevant participant/ staffing issues to supervisor.
  • Assist with program equipment set ups and tear downs. Inspect program equipment and facility to minimize potential risk to participants. Ensure the program location is always left clean, orderly and safe at all times.
  • Perform all necessary administration and program functions pertaining to the operation of each drop-in program ensuring that appropriate policies are being adhered to.
  • Ensure qualifications are current and renewed prior to expiration.
  • To provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to participants, volunteers and patrons.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • To ensure supervision of participants at all times and provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants by adhering to department safety standards and assisting with emergency procedures as required
  • Complete all mandatory online e-learning modules.
  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Emergency First Aid and CPR 'B' Certification (Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, St. John's Ambulance or Canadian Ski Patrol).
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport Certification.
  • Experience working with youth and adults.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Recreation/sport skills.
  • Employment is conditional upon receipt of a Level III - Vulnerable Sector Check from a Police unit that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $15.27 - $16.98 ($15.54 - $ 17.28 as of April 1, 2022) 
Hours of Work: up to 24 hours per week 
Work Location: Various
