Your Role and Responsibilities
As the Head of Communications in Canada, you will lead efforts across media relations and internal communications, helping your team grow and develop, working together with marketing and analyst relations, collaborating with colleagues from across the region and the world, and advising IBM Canada leadership.

You’ll define the communications strategy for your market based on data and a combined understanding of the industry, internal audiences and the culture and values of our company. Aligned with corporate guidelines, you will promote brand positioning with media and influencers, innovate in new areas and develop your own knowledge and skills. You will work with clients, partners and employees to tell our story, and you will strive to protect, position and contribute to the growth of the company. This will all be in service of connecting the company’s corporate strategies and announcements with the local national agenda to drive relevance and impact in the country.

This professional will develop an in depth-awareness and understanding of IBM's business strategy, offerings, and the competitive landscape with the ability to speak with authority. This includes undertaking competitive positioning to ensure that IBM's value proposition and competitive differentiators are clearly communicated.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Oversee our PR agency partnership and managing relationships with industry editors, media personnel, journalists, and other opinion makers and influencers in Canada.
  • Manage team of external relations and internal communications specialists and lead IBM’s external, internal and executive communication strategy
  • Manage potential crises and minimize brand/reputation impacts internally and externally
  • Measure outcomes and impact based upon quantitative and qualitative metrics
  • Monitor competitors and align local communications strategy to neutralize competitor's announcements impact
  • Collaborate with key executives and functional leaders to bring compelling messages to the market aligned with local business strategies.
  • Strong executive presence and business acumen with the ability to ‘take a seat at the table’ with senior business leaders to provide advice and counsel and articulate an informed point-of-view

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Senior Communications professional with extensive experience in corporate communications in Canada
  • Solid experience in team leadership,
  • Experience working with public relations agencies,
  • Experience advising high-level executives,
  • Experience driving employee communications
  • Experience with managing brand reputation,
  • Extensive knowledge and relationships with of the Canadian media companies
  • Experience with the development of corporate communication strategies for the positioning of B2B brands.


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Experience working in multinational companies and/or international experience
  • Technology industry expertise is a plus.
  • French Canadian proficiency is preferred


Must have the ability to work in Canada without sponsorship.
