Your Opportunity

We currently have an opening for a Junior Environmental Field Hydrogeologist position in our Edmonton, AB office. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting environmental field data collection, analysis, pump tests, hydraulic conductivity testing and reporting in our Hydrogeological Services group. There will also be additional opportunities to work on other environmental services projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Fulfilling health and safety requirements and completing all work in accordance with established protocols
  • Providing logistical support for reporting and field work
  • Participating in local and remote-areas field work, working up to 12 hours per day
  • Ensuring that field data is collected using best practices in accordance with standard procedures
  • Accurate recording of field data through implementation of quality management procedures and attention to detail
  • Data entry/management and technical reporting
  • Field work may include data collection for groundwater monitoring, pump testing, hydraulic conductivity testing, water well drilling, soil sampling, surface water sampling, sediment sampling, and other environmental field services
  • Assisting with equipment maintenance and management

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Dedication to working safely within established procedures and protocols
  • Adaptability, organization, critical thinking, self-motivation, a keen willingness to learn, a love of the outdoors, attention to detail, succinct writing ability, and ability to multitask
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to identify issues in the field while working with senior staff to develop solutions
  • Proficiency with standard productivity software including all MSOffice products
  • Additional skills such as current First Aid training, WHMIS, H2S Alive, UTV operator training, are assets but are not required. Training will be provided as necessary.
  • Practical knowledge of working outdoors and infrastructure related to water wells are assets but are not required.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to travel and mobilize to local or remote sites on minimal notice.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Have a minimal of 1 year of related field experience.

Education and Experience

The successful candidate must have completed a post-secondary certificate program in Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.

Field work may include long days (12 hours), with travel, last minute schedule changes and exposure to the elements including inclement weather. A valid driver’s license and the ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs is a requirement for this position.
