Job Summary
 
Reporting to the Associate Director, Marketing, the Manager will successfully manage the development and implementation of policies and programs to achieve university goals. This position takes a leadership role in the management and development of marketing planning and issues management, and provides strategic counsel to the University’s senior management team. The Manager will also develop and manage the planning and implementation of proactive marketing programs supporting the University’s international student recruitment ambitions.
 
Accountabilities Provides a leadership role in the development, implementation and management of marketing programs which is instrumental in the University’s ability to achieve its objectives Responsible for relationship development with key audiences such as faculty, staff, agencies, students, media, alumni, supporters, government and the community. Manages the successful development of communications and marketing strategies supporting international student recruitment Responsible for the development of programs that will facilitate increased understanding of goals, objectives, and successes by increasing the University’s profile with key internal and external audiences Manages and prepares a variety of forms of marketing programs including print, digital, websites, and email, amongst others Provides leadership in the development of marketing strategies Represents the department to key internal and external audiences Develops and manages a comprehensive and proactive marketing program including media buying, web development and digital user journeys Creates, implements and evaluates the effectiveness of all related projects Identifies and develops opportunities for senior officers to maximize effective marketing Supports McMaster’s advancement priorities through an integrated marketing program
 
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills A University degree - McMaster degree is an asset 4-5 years relevant experience Established relationships and networks in communications and public affairs Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills Demonstrated exceptional research and writing skills Sound judgement and decision-making Demonstrated success in areas of media relations, strategic internal and external communications, marketing and branding, social media, public affairs Understanding of diverse media channels including new media and evolving digital environments Ability to lead and facilitate project teams and/or effectively contribute to a team Ability to lead, supervise and direct staff and manage external agencies and vendors Computer knowledge, with proven technical experience of Microsoft Office Experience of using a CRM (preferably Microsoft Dynamics), and of automated marketing techniques Demonstrated success in area of international student recruitment and/or another relevant customer-focused marketing campaign Good understanding of digital marketing and emerging marketing technologies Proven ability to create project budgets and understand financial documents Excellent oral communication skills Proven ability to maintain confidentiality Sound judgment and independent decision-making abilities
