Day in the Life: 

The Manager, Merchant Initiatives will help drive the strategy and manage the successful delivery of merchant initiatives across The Bay. In partnership with the VP, Merchant Initiatives they will work cross functionally with key internal partners within the Merchant, Planning and Analytics (MP&A) departments. They will also align and work heavily with HBC teams, as well as external vendors, on the development and execution of emerging initiatives. This is a highly visible role within the organization that requires a self motivated individual with a sense of ownership and a demonstrated high performance in previous retail supporting roles. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and strategic thinking skills. They will be adaptable, flexible, curious, and will excel in managing and building a breadth of strong working relationships with cross-functional teams to deliver results quickly.

This role will actively support our DE&I framework by identifying opportunities to increase the diversity of our products and brands.  They will lead with inclusion to nurture our OneTeam culture by removing barriers for our Associates and communities.

What You Will Do: 

  • Partner with the VP, Merchant Initiatives to execute merchant initiatives from concept to execution with a high degree of organizational and planning skills
    • Work across buying and planning functions to ensure that the vision and strategy is managed in accordance with financial targets, budgets and deadlines
    • Responsible for managing the progress scorecard for merchant initiatives
  • Utilizing their retail industry experience, proactively identify merchandising opportunities and efficiencies through key merchant meetings, store visits, industry research, business results, etc.
  • Refine/develop new standards and processes for business driving practices that grow results and efficiencies
  • Audit current practices and results to ensure the strongest, most efficient standards are in place
  • Assess current usage of tools determining and implementing best practices
  • Work with merchant leaders to offer course correcting strategies (training, streamlining data and information)
  • Partner with the HBC Leadership team to support bricks and mortar business development activities, store communication processes, and the concession business
  • Buying/Planning tools (work with IT and relevant teams to streamline/establish new processes/tools) 
  • Develop efficiencies in thebay.com processes
  • Obtain and update information, relevant metrics etc. for critical leadership meetings and tools
  • Partner with International, Logistics, and Distribution Center teams
  • Partner with the Buying Operations team on all HBC India processes
  • Additional responsibilities as required

What You Will Need:

  • 5 years of strategic and analytical retail experience at the Manager level
  • Knowledgeable of the Canadian retail landscape
  • Strong project management skills and decision-making ability
  • Ability to multitask and achieve deadlines in an efficient, timely, and accurate manner
  • Background in cross functional/cross organizational work   
  • A natural problem-solver who is also intuitively analytical and creative
  • Flexible and agile  
  • Ability to work autonomously  
  • Strong knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn internal systems, processes and additional software/web-based applications
