About the role:

We are searching for a talented candidate who is looking to grow their regulatory compliance knowledge and experience within Sun Life (SL) dynamic and collaborative culture. The Manager, Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) is an important risk management role that provides the opportunity to work with multiple lines of business and a variety of Corporate Functional Areas worldwide. The role will build long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships while advancing SL’s RCM program. The role will also provide the opportunity to apply critical thinking, analytical and creative problem solving skills and will be relied upon as a key advisor to the business by providing subject matter expertise and by delivering strategic advice. We are seeking a driven team player who is looking to join a fast-paced, high growth, energetic and forward-thinking  team that is focused on the enablement of SL Canada Business Units and Corporate Functional Areas around the jurisdictions within which we operate to meet their business objectives while operating in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Specifically, the role will be responsible for providing direction, education and maintenance of effective Compliance Programs, including Compliance Governance, Regulatory Change Management, Compliance Risk Assessment, and Compliance Reporting.

The RCM reports directly to the Director, Regulatory Compliance Management & Policy and collaborates and works closely with Business Unit Compliance Officers and their teams, Corporate Compliance and other Control Functions.

What will you do?

  • Support the transformation and maintenance of a sustainable Regulatory Compliance Management program for SL. This role will support all elements of an effective Regulatory Compliance Program including, regulatory inventories, issues management, risk assessments, controls mapping and compliance testing.
  • Enhance and maintain an effective Regulatory Change program for diverse business operations of SLF Canada, including tracking and communicating regulatory developments to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the transformation and maintenance of a sustainable enterprise-wide Regulatory Compliance Management program for SL. This role will be to support all elements of an effective Regulatory Compliance program including;regulatory inventories, issues management, risk assessments, controls mapping and compliance testing.
  • Act as an RCM Program implementation lead, to manage and,foster collaboration, and build working relationships in the local Business Unit Compliance teams.
  • Support the program to oversee local Business Unit and Corporate Functional Area assessment of compliance risks and controls working closely with local Business Unit Compliance Officers and Enterprise Compliance.
  • Champion enterprise-wide and industry best practices through resiliency and adaptability to support and drive ongoing enhancements to Sun Life’s Regulatory Compliance Management Framework and provide active change management leadership to support Enterprise RCM team goals.
  • Engage key stakeholders through clear and succinct communication and be able to simplify Compliance elements into simple terms for business partners.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of Sun Life’s Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tool, including ensuring that functionality and usage aligns with Enterprise RCM program objectives.
  • Development and effective delivery of training and educational content on topics such as RCM methodologies and usage of the GRC tool.
  • Conduct research and prepare dashboards and other measurement tools that define actionable metrics of success, benchmarks and measurement tools for Enterprise Compliance.
  • Responsible for quality assurance over the enterprise RCM program, noting areas for improvement and the remediation of gaps.
  • Lead and participate in compliance related projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Representation on cross-functional projects and industry committees and forums

What you need to succeed?

  • University education or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive experience in regulatory compliance, governance, legal or other relevant experience in the financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry, legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of governing legislation (e.g. OSFI’s E-13 Guideline) and related regulations (e.g. local insurance acts, AML Regulations, Privacy legislation, etc.) and other regulatory guidelines and rules. (e.g. OSFI Guidelines, etc.).). Including knowledge of OSFI E-13 and key principles
  • Knowledge of key regulators and regulatory requirements applicable to financial services.
  • Experience and knowledge of Regulatory Compliance Management framework components and linkages.
  • Experience with the implementation, configuration and maintenance of GRC Tools that underpin an enterprise RCM program.
  • Knowledge of financial services industry compliance issues and areas of regulatory focus and their impact on large financial institution.
  • Understanding of risk assessment methodology.
  • Ability to translate legislation and regulations into business impacts, compliance elements and regulatory risks.
  • Ability to adjust effectively to changing priorities and deliverables.

  • Ability to work effectively with persons at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Experience working with diverse business lines is an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
