The University of Windsor's Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in the Faculty of Science, invites applications for a Permanence-Track Learning Specialist, Ancillary Academic Staff IV position in the field of Actuarial Science, commencing July 1, 2022.  This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

As a Learning Specialist, the successful candidate will bring expertise to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics that will enhance the learning of undergraduate and graduate students in our Actuarial Science programs. As the Coordinator of the Master of Actuarial Science Program, the successful candidate will have general responsibility for the continuing development, smooth running, and operation of the Master of Actuarial Science program and the Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours Actuarial Science) program. As a member of the faculty, the candidate will teach at least two courses per year in the Actuarial Science program.  The position reports to the Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

The successful candidate will: be a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society or have an appropriate master’s degree (Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science) and be an Associate Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, or the Casualty Actuarial Society; have professional experience as an actuary; have excellent oral and written skills; have excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with students in a professional, collegial, and supportive manner; have the ability to be an effective teacher; and demonstrated leadership experience.  Preferred qualifications include international experience as an actuary and demonstrated effective teaching at the university level.

  • a teaching dossier or portfolio demonstrating potential for or evidence of teaching effectiveness and excellence that will include sample course syllabi/outlines, teaching evaluations, and a statement of teaching philosophy and interests (resources and templates for completing a teaching dossier can be found at https://www.uwindsor.ca/ctl/502/teaching-dossiers;
  • graduate transcripts; and
  • three (3) current letters of reference forwarded directly by the referees to the Department Head at the address listed below.
