As a key member of the income tax team, you will be responsible for supporting income tax compliance, reporting and audit functions. You will play an integral role providing support to the tax controversy team in managing all Canadian income tax controversy and dispute resolution matters.  You will assist senior members of the tax team and will interact with various members of federal and provincial tax authorities to resolve a wide variety of tax disputes.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Participate in all stages of the tax controversy cycle including preparing responses to audit queries, assisting in the drafting of notices of objection and appeals
  • Contribute to strategy development that will result in favorable tax dispute resolutions
  • Provide organizational support with respect to all aspects of tax litigation including review of documents and preparation for examinations for discovery
  • Assist with tax research in determining appropriate tax filing positions
  • Sponsor special projects related to tax compliance and planning matters

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of tax experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in finance, law, or accounting
  • A recognized accounting designation (CA, CPA, CMA, CGA)
  • Completion of tax courses, level 1 and 2, with level 3 preferable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically in Excel

Preference for:

  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Proficient writing skills and an attention to detail
  • A deep understanding of the tax function combined with advanced analytical and financial accounting skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to effectively handle a diverse workload
  • A problem-solving attitude with the ability to utilize critical thinking skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
