PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Specialist - Program Management will be responsible for conducting Project Controls activities on internal and external projects within Canada and the US. The successful candidate will be responsible for execution of Project Control plans for each project in the Engineering function, addressing project controls responsibilities, methodology and systems. This newly created position will also oversee the development of schedules and manage reporting requirements (internal and external).

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop, document, and implement policies and procedures relating to Program Management;
  • Perform Project Controls training and oversight;
  • Provide support to personnel performing project management in every aspect of project administration in support of projects and operations;
  • Participate in project team alignment activities;
  • Understands the scope, cost, schedule and terms & conditions of the internal and external contracts;
  • Develop, review, approve, report, and schedule benchmarks;
  • Ensure that all project work is effectively planned, budgeted, and scheduled; 
  • Assist in maintaining estimate documentation including support backup for future proposal development purposes;
  • Analyze and forecast project cost against approved budgets; 
  • Ensures that project budgets, costs and forecasts are communicated and approved by appropriate client, company, and project personnel;
  • Coordinate information with stakeholders to prepare and distribute periodic Project Administration Reviews and metric reports;
  • Monitor and report on Project change requests.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-Secondary Engineering or Construction based degree or diploma is preferred;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ industry related experience;
  • PMP certification considered an asset;
  • Computer skills: SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project;
  • Experience in operations, maintenance and construction projects;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required;
  • Program Management experience is required.

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
