Summer Intern - Indigenous Engagement

 

The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator (IEC) is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of Indigenous Engagement initiatives for the RP1 account.  The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator works closely with the Indigenous Engagement Committee, Indigenous vendors as well as Indigenous community representatives to proactively resolve issues and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator will aim to deeply understand Indigenous communities and create contacts and connections through intensive community engagement, work with individuals, groups and organizations to develop and target communities for business development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Indigenous Engagement Program

  • Prepares and submits regular status reports on Indigenous Engagement activities and initiatives.
  • Actively participates in Indigenous Engagement Committee meetings.

Indigenous Engagement

  • The IEC will establish and maintain contact with various First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, organizations and individuals, building upon existing relationships, and forging new relationships
  • Emphasis will be placed on understanding the unique economic and social needs identified by indigenous communities
  • The IEC will be expected to develop and maintain a sophisticated understanding of the socio-economic, political conditions and economic development opportunities in Indigenous communities.

Reporting and Communication

  • Provides weekly and monthly status reports to the Indigenous Engagement Committee on outstanding or in progress items and identifies new items for resolution.
  • Supports Indigenous Communications activities including podcasts, presentations, social medial etc.
  • Works with communications to inform Indigenous vendors and communities of related activities and opportunities in their respective area.
  • Develop and maintain a list of priority communities (Communities of Interest) based on community needs, governance, economic development potential, employment and training capacity and receptiveness to business development opportunities.  This list will be supported by extensive research and documentation, which outlines the specific economic and business development possibilities within each Community of Interest.

Vendor Management

  • Develop and maintain a list of qualified Indigenous vendors.
  • Responsible for the ongoing relationship management of Indigenous vendors.
  • Works with Indigenous vendors to identify expanded bid participation opportunities.

The IEC will maintain excellent communications with the National Director and other Indigenous Engagement Committee members.  They will also provide regular updates to the broader community, ensuring that the unique needs of Indigenous communities are well understood.  The IEC will provide the National Director, and the entire Indigenous Engagement Steering Committee, with advice on how best to engage Indigenous communities in western Canada.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • In progress for a University or College Degree
  • Experience working with/within Indigenous communities
  • Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Able to meet requirements for Federal Security Clearance
